Second Trimester: I MADE IT!

I am officially 30 weeks prego which means I have survived my second trimester and I am now into my third trimester! YAY!! It wasn't easy! I would go into detail about the beginning of my third trimester, but I don't want to scare you....YET!
Second Trimester: 28 Weeks (I look miserable....I think I was miserable when I took this pic. Pardon the misery. LOL.)

Here are a few of the symptoms that I have experienced during my second trimester:

Major Hot Flashes: I NEVER understood what hot flashes were until this pregnancy. I knew about them, but I didn't know how miserable it would be to experience them first hand and let me tell you! IT SUCKS! Especially during the summer. I lived in front of the fan, swamp cooler, and air conditioner ALL SUMMER LONG. My husband is always hot and I had him wrapped up in blankets at times. KARMAS A BITCH. HA! JK. He KNEW I was HOT whenever he had to cover himself to stay warm. LOL. I sympathize with menopausal woman now and I'm not looking forward to that phase of my life. I really hope that these hot flashes go away because I've heard that some people still suffer from hot flashes after pregnancy.

Insomnia: My work schedule is already crazy (night shift) and this pregnancy has made it even more difficult for me to sleep. I have a hard time turning, my body aches, I have to pee at least 2-3 times per night....I'm just not comfortable. Sleeping is a mission. If I get to sleep through the night....it's a miracle!

Frequent Bathroom Visits: Also see Insomnia

Hip Pain: My hips are hurting me.  My hips feel like they're going to give out and my sciatica is getting pinched. I've had to take Tylenol to help me get through the night and sometimes a massage from my hubby helps too. I haven't tried heating pads yet, but I'm sure that might help a little too. Stretching might help alleviate some of the hip pain, but my next step is getting a referral to see a physical therapist. I need some guidance.....

Neck Pain: The weight from my belly is putting pressure into my neck and shoulders. How do I know? I looked it up online. I didn't think it would be possible, but I am carrying alot of weight in my belly which is pulling weight from my neck down into my back. I might be sleeping wrong too.

Fatigue: Also see Insomnia

Heartburn: Stay away from soda and chips and maybe Mexican food and Mexican candy. Oh! And coffee! I already know what I need to do. It doesn't help that I work nights and have to drink coffee to stay awake. I'm a mess!! There are several foods to avoid to prevent heartburn and I'm ignoring that list. When i go on maternity leave I will be sure to cut caffeine out of my diet.  Side note: Tums doesn't always help either.

Cravings: Mexican candy, Mexican food, and eggs. Weird. I know.

Pelvic Pain: Near the end of the second trimester I have been experiencing pelvic pressure/pain. I cant walk too much or the pain will intensify. It's almost like a shooting/ cramping pain that you feel going down your crotch when the pain comes on. Sometimes it comes on when you've been sitting for a while and need to stand up.

Heavy Breathing and Snoring:  Near the end of second trimester you'll notice that you're breathing heavier and maybe you're snoring loud enough to wake everyone and their momma up. It HAPPENS! You might get woken up a few times from your spouse too (because you're snoring so loud)...if they're still alive after that. The baby is sitting on your internal organs. I'm being dramatic, but you know what I mean.....Seriously, why does your spouse have to wake you up? They need to move elsewhere if they don't like  the snoring.....And if you walk for a longer period of time....you're out of breathe alot faster. Welcome to second going on third trimester!!! LOL.

By the end of your second trimester you'll need to have your sugar levels tested. It's called a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT).  I tested at 28 weeks prego. The test is two hours and it's really boring. I suggest that you take a book to read, bring your high tech phone, and maybe even a phone charger in case your phone dies. I've had to take two tests because I have a  history of gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. It doesn't look good for me....more details later.

So, that was second trimester for me! It's been quite a journey. Through all of my aches and pains, it's been worth it. You forget all of it once it's done and over with. Then, you have this precious little baby that you get to enjoy for the rest of your life! It isn't always easy, but it's definitely worth it. It sounds crazy, but it's so true!
Second Trimester: Week Unknown

What are symptoms that you have experienced during your second trimester? Did I miss anything? Any questions from new mommies? I'm not a pro, but I can help answer a few questions for first timers. How about advice? I could always use advice! Until next time! Ciao!
