Childhood Memories & Crockpot Baked Apples.

What could I make the kids that they might enjoy eating? I started thinking about the different types of food that my mom used to make for me when I was little. I remember watching her experiment on different recipes and they would always turn out so good.
It's almost Christmas and I haven't made anything holidayish (I make my own words up). An idea popped into my head (Wow. I make it sound like I never have anything going on in there. If my husband's reading this. Don't respond to that. He's a smartass.). I remember my mom making me a yummy desert that I really loved. It's nothing special, nothing new, but it was something that I wanted to make my kids that I hoped they would enjoy.
Crockpot Baked Apples!
Oh! Did I mention that I REALLY LOVE crockpot cooking? I love that you can make your meal early in the morning and not have to worry about cooking in the evening.
Yes, Crockpot Baked Apples. My creative idea that only included five simple ingredients. I was just excited that I had these ingredients. It brought me back to my childhood... My biggest hope for making this simple desert was having my little boys remember that I had made it for them.
The aroma from making this desert was divine.
Most importantly...my kids LOVED it.
My husband wasn't too big on it. Maybe it's a childhood thing. He said he wasn't too big on the texture. I really enjoyed it. The kids really enjoyed it. It really does taste like the inside of an apple pie without the crust. It would've been better with vanilla ice cream. I definitely plan on making it again. I also heard that Baked Apples are good chopped and mixed into oatmeal...

Ingredients:

•6 to 8 medium cooking apples (McIntosh, Rome Beauty, Granny Smith, Fuji, Jonathan, etc.)

•2 to 3 tablespoons raisins (I added extra raisins to fill my apples)

•1/4 cup sugar (I used brown sugar instead on white granulated sugar)

•1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided (I added a little extra cinnamon)

•2 tablespoons slightly melted butter

Preparation:

Peel your apples & core. Mix raisins, sugar, butter, & 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; fill center of apples. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon. Place in slow cooker; pour 1/2 cup warm water around apples (instead of water I used apple juice). Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, until apples are tender.

Have you ever made Baked Apples? What do you do differently? Do you think it's an acquired taste? Do you have a childhood memory of your mom or dad cooking something special for you?

2 Days Till' Christmas!!
