Losing Weight...

My Journey to Weight Loss
I've been on a diet since October 2008. So far I've lost between 15-17 lbs. Realistically I've been on a diet my whole life. I've tried all types of diets from atkins to calorie counting to pills. I used to be small when I was younger...before kids and before I was married. I controlled my weight the first few years of marriage, but when we had kids everything went downhill...or should I say down south. Everything drooped and went bigger. I know how to lose weight. The problem is getting myself motivated to lose the weight with everything else distracting me from actually doing it. Now that I've had my second child I feel that it's my turn to take care of my body. For me and for my family.

Exercise
One important tip to losing weight is exercise. Good ol' fashioned exercise. The most hardest thing to convince yourself to do. I used exercise 4-5 days per week when I was skinny. I felt good about myself and most importantly I had energy. Energy!! I love energy and I miss my old energy. The best part about exercise is that you can cheat every once in a while because you know you'll have good ol' exercise to depend on after that wonderful snack or meal. It's a scary word, but it's the truth.

Food Intake
The next thing to worry about is your food intake and the types of food that you eat. I'm not a nutritionist or a dietitian, but common sense tells me that I need to cut down on carbs, starches, sugar, and fat intake. When mom tells you to eat your fruits and veggies, she's not lying. Fruits and veggies help lose weight and keep you full when you're having the urge to eat something sweet or just plain hungry when it's not time to eat. So, slowly I'm changing the way I eat, but here's my downfall for now. I am depending on a doctor prescribed method to help control my appetite. So far it's working!! I don't crave "bad" food, I get full fast, and I'm not as hungry as I used to be.

My Goals for 2009
1. Lose 70 lbs. by the end of the year.

2. Exercise consistently 4-5 days per week (YMCA (Pilate's, Spin, and Gym)).

3. Join my old aerobic kickboxing class (Ultimate kickboxing and Fitness)
(I had to drop kickboxing because I have a bad back and bad hips. The doctor said if I'm consistent with Pilate's and spin, I can strengthen my abdominal and back muscles. And I won't have to worry about my back giving out on me. Right now my back is what the physical therapist calls a "loose bag of marshmallows". Nice right? I love kickboxing. I miss it so much!! I lost weight from doing it, but gained it back from my good ol' back giving out on me and not exercising while I healed. Nothing like releasing tension and energy on those bags....)

4. Join a local running club or group to run with in the morning or in the evening.
(I've always been interested in doing marathons or dare I say triathlon. Obviously, I'm not in shape now, but what a goal to accomplish!!)

5. Nip and tuck when I'm done with my weight loss!! Like I've said before. After kids, my body went south...this primarily includes my chest and my stomach. It'll be a little present to me after I'm done with my journey. Wish me luck!!
